Wedding Photography at The Oak Tree of Peover.
A Barn Wedding Venue in Cheshire
There is something special about the first wedding of the year that really feels like autumn. The air was a little cooler, the leaves were beginning to turn and the trees surrounding The Oak Tree of Peover in Cheshire were taking on the most beautiful golden hues. With the sunshine catching the changing leaves, this gorgeous Cheshire wedding venue looked even more magical.
Rachael and Craig’s autumn wedding was the perfect reminder of just how beautiful this time of year can be for a wedding.
Golden Hour Portraits at The Oak Tree of Peover
I am not sure whether Rachael buried a sausage for good weather but whatever she did, it worked. We were treated to some glorious sunshine, which gave us the most beautiful light for the couple’s wedding portraits.
As a Cheshire wedding photographer, I love making the most of the light and the surroundings without taking couples away from their celebrations for too long. The grounds at The Oak Tree of Peover are particularly lovely in autumn, with the changing leaves creating a gorgeous backdrop for natural, colourful wedding photographs.
The late afternoon sunshine was an absolute dream, adding warmth to the images and giving Rachael and Craig a little time together before the celebrations continued inside.
Dusky Pinks, Deep Reds and Autumn Wedding Styling
Inside, The Oak Tree of Peover had been beautifully dressed by Flossies Weddings. Rachael chose a gorgeous palette of dusky pinks and deep reds, bringing all the warmth and richness you want from an autumn wedding.
I loved how the colours complemented the season without feeling too traditional. Paired with the character of the venue, the styling created a welcoming atmosphere that felt perfect for an October wedding in Cheshire.
Candlelight and the Perfect Autumn Wedding Atmosphere
With the sun setting earlier, the transition from golden afternoon light to candlelit dinner happened quickly. Those deeper tones also worked beautifully as the afternoon turned to evening, adding to the cosy feel of the celebrations.
This is one of my favourite things about autumn weddings. You get those lovely opportunities for outdoor portraits while the light lasts, followed by the atmosphere of an evening spent celebrating indoors. There is something about candlelight, rich colours and the first proper chill of the season that makes everything feel especially inviting.
For couples planning an autumn wedding at The Oak Tree of Peover, it is worth embracing the earlier sunset and building a little time into your schedule for portraits before the light disappears. You do not need hours away from your guests. Sometimes a short walk outside at just the right moment is all it takes.
If you are looking for a wedding venue in Cheshire, The Oak Tree of Peover is a beautiful setting for a celebration in any season. In autumn, the surrounding trees, golden light and opportunity for cosy, candlelit evenings make it particularly special. You can read my full Oak Tree of Peover wedding venue guide for everything you need to know.
My approach to wedding photography is documentary with an editorial eye. I love capturing the real moments as they unfold, the little interactions you might otherwise miss and the portraits that feel like you, rather than a staged photoshoot. Your wedding day should be about celebrating with your favourite people, with time for some beautiful photographs along the way.
Rachael and Craig, huge congratulations to you both. What a beautiful day, and the perfect way to welcome autumn.
If you are planning your own wedding at The Oak Tree of Peover or another Cheshire wedding venue, I would love to hear about it.

As a Wedding Photographer, This Is Why You Should Choose The Oak Tree of Peover
The Oak Tree of Peover feels warm from the moment you arrive. It is a bespoke oak framed barn on 30 acres of Cheshire countryside and the timber, the greenery and the soft light give it a character that a typical ballroom cannot match. The grounds are generous and in autumn the trees around them turn gold, which gives you a glorious golden hour for portraits. There are so many beautiful spots outdoors that you will not want to leave.
The Acorn Room is flooded with natural light from floor to ceiling windows and skylights, with fairy lights for the evening and a real bougainvillea winding up to the ceiling. The Ladybird Room looks out over the grounds and is a beautiful place to say your vows and there is an outdoor pavilion for a ceremony or drinks in the open air.
Guests gather in the Acorn Bar beside a real log fire and a balcony hung with foliage, which is the perfect way to start a celebration. It is a private venue, so the day feels entirely yours.
Why Choose Megan Maxwell as Your Wedding Photographer
People should choose me as their The Oak Tree of Peover wedding photographer because I know how to tell a story. After fifteen years as a television director and writer at the BBC, I bring a documentary approach to wedding photography, with an eye for the moments, relationships and little details that make your day yours. Rachael and Craig’s wedding was the first of the year that really felt like autumn and it finished with a glorious golden hour.
My style is mostly documentary. I will be in the background for most of the day, catching the hugs, the happy tears, the questionable dance moves and all the unexpected things that happen around you. With the oak framed barn, the Acorn Room and the grounds there is plenty to photograph. You get to spend your wedding day with your favourite people instead of thinking about where the photographer is or what you should be doing.
Photographs of the two of you looking incredible matter too. We will usually take about twenty minutes for a wander together around the grounds at golden hour, with gentle direction whenever it is useful. You do not need to be a natural in front of the camera or know how to pose. Leave that to me.
Beautiful and meaningful matter equally to me. I make images full of life, personality and rich colour that capture not just what your wedding looked like but how it felt to be there.
What I want most is for you to have a collection of photographs that tells the whole story. The big moments, the little moments and the people you love, plus all the things you might otherwise have missed. Photographs to enjoy now and treasure for years to come.
Every collection includes full day coverage with no set hours, travel is included and your previews arrive within 48 hours.
